RacketRadio.com DOWN (temporary)

Don't panic!
My home internet is having difficulties, and may for another day or two. Unfortunately everything for RacketRadio.com runs on my home network, so even the website is down for now. Once the internet returns, so will the station in its former glory.

What a deal!

Google rocks, what can I say. I swear that soon, google will take over the internet, and offer everything to everyone for free, and still somehow manage to make zillions of bucks in the process.

I'm referring specifically to Google Apps for Your Domain. For a long time now, I've just had all my racketradio.com email hosted at my website, but forwarded to my blittz gmail account. Well now, I don't even need to have my website touch my email, Google will be the host for the mx records and everything. The biggest reason I'm so happy about this is that if I ever need to move my website to a new server (maybe even my own linux box) I don't have to worry about learning how to configure the new server to handle email.

Basically it comes down to this. Go to namecheap.com (or any other domain registrar), buy a domain name, get signed up on Google Apps for Your Domain, and presto, for under $10 a year (just the price of the domain name) you can have google host your website with 100 MB of space, and up to 100 email accounts, all with 2+ GB of room. Throw in some extra's like a calendar, and google chat, and your all set. So thanks to Google Apps, what once cost a few bucks a month, now costs a few bucks a year, yay Google!

Update: I just learned that Microsoft Office Live has something similar (also in beta). Their's has 30 MB of webspace, 10 GB / Month of bandwidth, and 5 email accounts (at 2 GB per account). The biggest difference is that Microsoft will register a domain name for free. If you cancel Microsoft's services (after the 60 day waiting period), you will still own the domain name, but you will have to pay for it through Melbourne IT, which costs $35/year.

Random Laffy Taffy Jokes

As posted in a previous entry I mentioned how I had created a Laffy Taffy joke database. Well, I found a way to put it online, and poof, here it is (above). Its cute for now, it is just random, refresh the page for a new joke. I make no claim to any ownership of the jokes, and while some are pretty good, some are.. very bad.. so read at your own risk :) The jokes may go offline at any time, depends on my mood, and what I do with this blog, so get 'em while you can (lol).

What a kick!

I just got back from the local firing range. One of my friends heard about a local FN rep bringing some new toys to the shop. We went and happily disposed of 80 5.7x28mm rounds via a Five-seveN USG FN pistol, and a PS90 (commercial version of the P90, the same gun they use in Stargate). I gotta tell you, that was fun. I walked away with a re-kindled passion for handguns.

The PS90 carbine was very cool, it has a unique ammo clip, which we had to ask the manufacture how to load the first time. Once we got that down, it took just a few minutes to load the clip with a full 50 rounds. I got to fire off roughly 20 rounds, and it was a lot of fun, but I'm more of a handgun guy, rifles(carbines) seem just to big for me.

The Five-seveN USG was a blast (pun intended)! It was moderately loud, with average flash, and although our test model shot a little low, it was quite accurate. I ended up shooting off about 80 rounds with it, and it felt good the whole time. If I were to actually buy a handgun, I'd put this one as a top choice.

I did end up spending more than I should have, with $20 per box of 50 rounds, and the $150 membership fee at the range, I spent well over $200 today for the priveledge of shooting some very unique and fun weapons. Would I do it again? oh heck yeah!

asp for dummies (me)

I'm getting shuffled arround at work, seems I've grown beyond sitting at the help desk helping customers. I now get to work with the applications group.. the people who do databases, website stuff, etc.. This means I need to learn asp (active server pages) which is a MS thing. I know a little about php/sql stuff, but this asp is a whole new game. I'm finding it difficult to learn, but I'm not going to give up.

Laffy Taffy Jokes

Today I finished entering just over 100 Laffy Taffy jokes into a database I made. Why? yeah good question. It started out as the combination of learning how to program with databases in php, and a facination with the Laffy Taffy jokes. I'm considering putting it up somewhere publically, just to see if anyone would be interested in a list of really corny jokes.

Tune in my station!
